When Should I Start Bringing My Child To the Pediatric Dentist?

At Little Bee’s Pediatric Dentistry, we recommend bringing your child in when their first tooth erupts or by twelve months of age. Early dental visits help establish healthy habits and allow us to identify and treat potential issues before they worsen.

How to prepare:

Keep it positive! Tell your child about their exciting dental adventure
Try pretend play at home with stuffed animals to practice
Book morning appointments for young children (ages 1-5) when they're fresh and alert
Consider a small reward for their bravery after their appointment

What To Bring To The Appointment

We've streamlined everything to make your experience as stress-free as possible. You'll receive all necessary forms electronically before your appointment, letting you complete them from the comfort of home. This means more time for what really matters: helping your child feel excited about their dental adventure!

FAQ's

Find answers to common questions about your child's first visit.

Absolutely! We welcome parents in our treatment rooms. While some children do better with a parent present and others are more independent, we'll work together to determine what's best for your child. Our team is experienced in helping both children and parents feel comfortable throughout the visit.

After the initial visit, we typically recommend check-ups every six months. However, some children may need more frequent visits depending on their oral health needs. We'll work with you to determine the best schedule for your child.

Pediatric dentists complete an additional 2-3 years of specialized training beyond dental school, focused specifically on:

  • Child behavior and development
Treatment of children with special needs
Growth and development of little teeth
    Advanced behavior guidance techniques
    Emergency pediatric dental care

This specialized training means we're uniquely qualified to care for your child's oral health from infancy through the teenage years.

A dental home provides consistent, comprehensive care throughout your child's development. When children establish a trusted relationship with their dentist early on, they're more likely to:

Develop positive attitudes about dental care
Maintain better oral health habits
Feel comfortable seeking dental care as adults
Have fewer dental emergencies
Receive appropriate preventive care
